Vintage Navajo Turquoise Coral Ring in Chunky Silver – Square Cabochon
£54.00 £48.60
Here we have an old Turquoise ring. What a statement ring! It’s in a Navajo / Native American style
The central stone is a big chunk of Turquoise, sitting high on the ring in a square bezel. This is surrounded by chips of Chalcedony and Coral, set in a black resin to make them really stand out. The band of the ring is chunky and has a beading running around it.
We think this ring is old. The band tests as silver, although not stamped with any marks at all. It uses stones which were typical of the early 20th century, used by Native American jewellery makers. The ring is not particularly well made – it has clearly been made by hand with limited tools.
The Turquoise is not particularly high quality. It is a (less desirable) vibrant colour, but it really works with the ring.
Turquoise has historically been known as the protection stone. It is meant to protect the wearer from the trials of day-to-day life. As such it brings tranquillity and hope. I know that Coral in jewellery is not to everyone’s taste. But we must repurpose these items.
⭐ This ring is for a larger finger being size T (UK) / 9.5 (US). It is very comfortable to wear (wearing it as I type!).
⭐ The central Turquoise is 11mm x 10mm. The depth of the central arrangement is just over 9mm.
⭐ The chips of Coral and Chalcedony are approximately 2mm wide.
⭐ The band to the ring is 5mm wide.
⭐ It is well used. The beading around the band of the ring has worn away in places. The is a chip of Chalcedony missing from the outside arrangement. The bezel holding the Turquoise is not very straight, although it was probably made this way. There are use marks throughout the ring.
